Transform your mobile phone into VeloComputer - an advanced cycling computer with cadence and GPS tracking. All you need is a mobile phone with accelerometer and GPS.

Strap your phone on a thigh with a sports armband holster with Velcro extension band or just put it in a pocket of your cycling tights. When the pedal is in its lower position, the phone on your thigh will be located in its low point of "rest". When the same pedal reaches the highest point, your legs make half the rotation in the crankshaft. The phone's accelerometer detects low and high points of "rest" and calculates cadence in rotations per minute (rpm). This technology eliminates the need to wire a cadence sensor on your bike. Keep your bike slim and clean!
All your trip data is stored on the phone in CSV files and can be uploaded to a spreadsheet for training analysis or Google Earth for tracking.

VeloComputer application works on phones with accelerometer supporting JSR-256 (mobile sensor) and JSR-179 (LBS/GPS). You can also use it on GPS phones without an accelerometer (no cadence feature). In this case just put the phone in a pocket or mount it on the handlebar.

VeloComputer uses VeloTones for audible speed, acceleration and cadence monitoring. VeloTones, like ringtones, are digital sounds which allow cyclists to monitor speed, acceleration and cadence audibly, by listening to VeloTones without looking at the display. It's like having your personal coach riding with you and telling when to speed up, slow down, up-or-down shift to maintain your cadence. RaceChrono V1.25 Beta1 S60V3 S60V5

RaceChrono is a GPS based lap timing software for Nokia Series 60 smart phones. It can be used to measure lap times on almost any vehicle and track. It can be used to measure laptimes for example for motorbikes, bicycles, cars, water jets and quadbikes.

The main feature is of course the Live Timer, which shows your lap- and sector-times in real-time. Also included are a scalable graphical display of traveled path, satellite reception display, speedometer and a compass. When you're back at the pits, you can also browse through your lap and sector times, or view your trap speeds. Or maybe analyze your laps by graphs of time, speed and altitude compared to any another lap.

All lap timing sessions are logged, and the results can be viewed afterwards. The raw NMEA-output from the GPS is also saved, so you can use that in other compatible software if you wish.

And yes, there's always the question of accuracy when it comes to timing anything. After extensive testing, we feel really confident on RaceChrono's accuracy. Our tests together with commercial lap timers have showed an accuracy of between +- 0.03-0.10 seconds with a cheap 5 Hz receiver. Switching to an ordinary 1 Hz SirfStar3 receiver RaceChrono was still very accurate - on the level of +- 0.10-0.15 seconds. Keep in mind however that accuracy is fully dependent on the quality of your GPS receiver and signal reception.

Note that if the signal from the satellites is too weak, your lap times can be inaccurate and in worst case you can even miss some laps. So take care to position your receiver properly on your dash close to the windshield, or maybe even outside the car! Use the satellite reception display to help you find the best location in your car.

You can download tracks from the RaceChrono software itself; by selecting Track profiles > Options > Download new. Just copy the downloaded file to /RaceChrono/Tracks/ on your memory card.

I started to work on Tracker.py, because I enjoy hiking, and like to use my N95 to see my location on a digitized map.

Although I usually leave well prepared for a trip (with respect to necessities), I generally go where the weather takes me, and so often find myself in a small village where finding even a paper map can be a tough job, let alone finding a decent digital map. Since I like to travel light, I usually don't bring a laptop or scanner, and so I very much wish to use my N95 camera to scan the map, and use that map to track my wereabouts while hiking.

The main purpose of Tracker.py, is to support this goal as much as possible. You can take a picture with the camera (I generally use a 3Mpix setting, but tested with 5Mpix as well), move it to the e:\maps directory (rename it to your liking), and then load it in Tracker.py.Once loaded, it requires at least 2 reference points to be set, and then it is ready for use. I usually calibrate a new map twice, first a short 15 minute walk to gather a basic calibration. Then after about an hour on my first restbreak, I recalibrate, and from then on the map is usually quite reliable.Besides showing your current position on the map, you can see some basic information in the dashview, where heading is shown (compas), altitude and speed, as well as a clock.(distance to waypoint, and current track distance, and current trip time are on the todo list )
